The Chatham Grandfather
(Based on the Willard design)
The
Chatham is a superb copy of a Simon Willard tall clock
made in the Roxbury (MA) style, circa. 1792.
The Chatham is a beautiful example of the outstanding
workmanship of this pre-eminent American clockmaker,
manufactured by skilled craftsmen in London.The solid
mahogany case features fine curl veneers to the panel
work, pierced and blind fretwork, and fluted hood and
waist columns. The columns are mounted with brass stops
and capitals. The hood is crowned with ball and spire
finials, and has glass side windows for viewing the
movement. The marquetry edge line, cross-banding and
corner quadrants match the original and are all laid
by hand. The base features ogee bracket feet.

is a hand painted copy of the original made in Boston
MA.

Gleneagle Grandfather
The “Gleneagle” cabinet is typical of the
work of the clockmaker William Robb of Montrose, circa.
1790, decorated with intricate Sheraton inspired marquetry.
The case is made of solid mahogany with extensive use
of stringing and corner inlays enhancing the superb
flame mahogany veneers. The scroll pediment is decorated
with wheat motifs and crowned with a fine cast brass
eagle. The case features “Corinthian” fluted
pillars to the hood, reeded quarter columns to the trunk
and “French Hepplewhite” splayed feet, bevelled
glasses.

Balmoral Grandfather
The Balmoral is typical of the Sheraton
style and was particularly popular with Scottish makers
such as Reid and Auld of Edinburgh (1762 - 1823). The
case is made from solid mahogany decorated with curl
veneers inlaid with boxwood stringing. The hood features
a fine swan-neck pediment and pillars.

The break-arch case was first introduced about 1710
and reflects the influence of Georgian architectural
design. The Chatsworth is typical
of the work of the London maker William Webster. The
walnut cabinet is decorated with book-matched burr veneers
and inlaid with satinwood banding. The case features
reeded quarter columns to the trunk and fluted Corinthian
pillars to the hood, bevelled glasses.

Jackson Grandfather Clock
USA. Thomas Jackson handcrafted a limited number of
fine floor clocks at Preston, Connecticut in the late
1700’s
This fine reproduction is made from solid cherry with
curly maple veneer and is typical of his work. The break-arch
pediment features waves and fishtail fretwork crowned
with three barley-twist finials. This popular decoration
reflects the importance of the New England sailing and
whaling industry at that time.

Kensington Grandfather
From the 1740`s the introduction of mahogany from the
West Indies and Central America became very popular,
in particular the flamed curl veneers. John Elliott
(1706 - 1772) produced many clocks in this style, of
which the Kensington is a typical
example. The break-arch solid mahogany cabinet features
reeded quarter columns to the trunks and fluted Corinthian
pillars to the hood.

The Vienna Floor
Regulator Grandfather
The
“Vienna” is a rare example of a floor-standing
regulator made in the Beidermeier period. Circa 1880.
Kaiser Frederich III established the oldest Guild of
Clockmakers in Vienna in 1451. The Charter and Royal
Patronage provided the stimulus that over the centuries
established Vienna as the leading centre for clockmaking
in Europe.
The walnut case features book-matched burr and figured
veneers inlaid with satinwood edge-line. The bevelled
edge of the door is decorated with cross-band figured
veneer and carved capitals. The Palladian style pediment
features hand carved decoration. The base features a
large drawer and turned bun feet.
